Media hype about feds protecting property

The lead story in the 2020-07-22 Washington print edition of the New York Times, one column in width and highest on the front page, has the all-caps headline:
"ADS PLAY ON FEAR
AS TRUMP RAISES
TENSION IN CITIES"
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/21/us/politics/trump-portland-federal-agents.html
Note who is blamed for raising tensions.

To the left of that one column story, the remaining five columns (for most of the above-the-fold page) are a quartet of night-time photos from Portland, with the caption:
"In Portland, Ore., federal officers in camouflage have used aggressive tactics like firing tear gas canisters against protestors, which included a peaceful line of mothers."

No mention of the specific reason for the use of tear gas.
Somehow I doubt it was merely to disperse that line of peacefully protesting mothers.

Just below that five column photo montage, but still above the fold, is a four column story, with headline
"Sent to Quell Unrest in Portland, Federal Agents Fan the Flames"
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/21/us/portland-protests.html
Note: That was the headline in the print edition;
the headline for the online story is:
"Chaotic Scenes in Portland as Backlash to Federal Deployment Grows".

The astonishing thing, to me, is how these stories so completely miss the reason for the deployment --
not to interfere with anyone's right to express their opinion, but to protect federal property from arson and other forms of destruction and violence.
Further, note all the efforts these "peaceful protestors" have made to harm the federal agents, e.g., deliberately and intensionally blinding them with lasers.
The media harms us all when it fails to give such factors the attention they deserve.
